Dear Ones,

What a year! Ever since returning to work, with each passing month it feels more and more like the Feathered Pipe is returning to its familiar, magical, mystical self. After so many years of hardship — brought on by global financial woes, mother nature, and my own health — it’s a happy relief to witness the effects of healing, and grace, at our precious Ranch. This could not have happened without your unwavering generosity, your attendance at our programs, and your enthusiastic and loving support for our work and our vision.

In just the past three years, we have:
  • Provided $30,000 worth of scholarships for people to attend our life-changing programs;
  • Hosted, pro bono, three Veterans Yoga Project healing retreats for Montana veterans and their families;
  • Entirely rebuilt the large, crumbling foundation holding up the Main Lodge fireplace near dorm room 4;
  • Installed beautiful new metal, fire-resistant roofs throughout the property — rain falling on the roofs has never sounded as great as it does now;
  • Completed the largest project ever undertaken at the Ranch — the complete replacement of our water line system;
  • Installed new heating and drainage systems;
  • Upgraded the hot tub to a saltwater and ultraviolet light system to keep the water clean without harsh chemicals;
  • Brought the Peace Garden back to vibrant life.

In the process of replacing our old water line, we were delighted (and surprised!) to see two new springs appear, as if out of nowhere, on the Ranch — one up by the Blueberry Yurt and another one on the path to the bathhouse. Fresh, clean water springing up from the ground and winding its circuitous way through the forest and paths is a small, but unexpectedly welcome and beautiful miracle. To me, it feels like an affirmation of, and metaphor for, all the new life and confidence about the future washing through the Feathered Pipe.

We need some more help this year to keep the momentum going. Specifically, we need to raise another $40,000 by year’s end to re-landscape the areas bruised by the work on the new water system, continue our vital scholarship programs, finish important facility upgrades, and continue our pro bono work for veterans. We also need to put up another new yurt in 2019.

Veterans Yoga Project & Beyond

The actual cost of the four-day, healing retreat program is $18,000 for 25 veterans; we would like to host both a women’s and men’s retreat in 2019. Unfortunately, we had to cancel the men’s retreat this year due to lack of funds, but the women’s program was an overwhelming success for the 25 women veterans who attended!

These are life-changing programs for people who were put in harm’s way and then treated poorly in the aftermath. I’d like to find several donors to give a total of $18,000 split among them. We can then raise the rest of the money required from grant writing and our existing funders. There is no one stronger for the Peace movement than people who have been through war.

And in 2019, we will launch work on our new bathhouse! Stay tuned for more details on this exciting, and overdue, project.

Minding and Mending Minds: Tenets of Intention – Anne Jablonski

First, that life is worth your fullest attention. For many, embracing and embodying a new, mindful way of being is a radically different approach to living. But if you’re weary of being weary, then you’re asking for something new to happen. For something that isn’t your usual experience of life. It’s a recognition, consciously or unconsciously, that your life is worth an investment of care and attention.
