Dear Friends,

Our dear friend, teacher and former Feathered Pipe board member, Lilias Folan passed away this week. She leaves behind an immense legacy of positive impact, especially through yoga. I remember her from my early childhood when she’d arrive at the Ranch with her big smile and her lovely rose scent, sweeping in with such energy and love. I’m grateful to have gotten to know her through the years and to directly experience and witness the deep way she touched lives. While impossible to summarize what Lilias meant to all of us at Feathered Pipe, we’ve written a small tribute: Remembering Lilias Folan - Joy is in the Journey.

FEATHERED PIPE FOOD & TRAVEL, a new series with Sam and Suzy

On the high note of remembering Lilias and her consistently reminding us Joy is in the Journey, we’ve got some fun news.

They love the Ranch. They love food. They love adventure. (And they can cook, write, and take nice photos! Will this list of talents never end?) Many of you know Sam Wieland and Suzy Weiner through the over-the-top delicious food they make at the Ranch. Now you will get to know them better while they share journeying and joy through food and travel as we work on our New Feathered Pipe Cookbook and kitchen blog.

Wait. Did you say “new cookbook”?!?

Yes! By popular request and because the stars are aligned with Sam and Suzy on the job, we are embarking on the project of making a new cookbook and sharing recipes coupled with adventures along the way through our online Feathered Pipe Kitchen Blog. This winter they headed off to India and got super inspired about bringing this to fruition. They share their vision in the inaugural article: Changing the World, One Meal at a Time.

Main Hall Online Series

Join us for free by Zoom for these upcoming online workshops:

Harnessing the power of attention with Marla Apt — Saturday, March 21 8am PT/ 9am MT / 10am CT / 11am ET

-- As yoga is defined as union, the practice gives us the opportunity to unite the disparate components of our self: body part, senses of perception, attention, and breath. Engage all of your faculties in the practice of asana to center your mind and awareness. In this practice, you will have the opportunity to explore the dimensions of asana that bring freedom in the body and clarity in the mind.

Marla began studying with BKS Iyengar and the Iyengar family in India almost 30 years ago. Her interest in yoga therapy led her to participate in research studies on yoga for mental health and to form Iyengar Yoga Therapeutics, a non-profit organization working to further knowledge of and accessibility to yoga’s healing applications. Marla’s been teaching at Feathered Pipe for over a decade and will be joining us again this summer.

Sensation Is the Teacher with Anne Jablonski – Sunday, March 29 at 9am PT/ 10am MT / 11am CT / 12 Noon ET

-- In this spacious, exploratory session, we’ll move in simple, adaptable ways that emphasize sensing rather than performing. Instead of trying to “achieve” poses, we’ll slow down enough to feel what’s actually happening — and allow that awareness to shape the way we move. You don’t need to get anything “right.” You just need to be willing to pay attention.

For over two decades, Anne Jablonski has danced with the rhythms of the Feathered Pipe Ranch, where she serves as President of the Feathered Pipe Foundation. To Anne, this sacred ground is more than a retreat center—it’s a refuge where the natural world invites us to remember what matters, to breathe deeper, and to awaken from the hum of modern life. With this spirit, she co-created The Mindful Unplug Experience: a space for embodied presence, soulful community, and reconnection through movement, rhythm, and nature.

Thank you to Susan-Elena Esquivel for teaching the Main Hall series on March 7 and thank you to all who have joined so far! If you missed any of the classes or want to view them again, please visit the Main Hall Series webpage.

Remembering Lilias Folan: Joy is in the Journey

Lilias Folan, born July 23, 1935, passed away on March 9, 2026. For many people around the country, she was the very first yoga teacher they ever encountered.

Often called “the First Lady of Yoga,” Lilias helped introduce the practice to millions through her groundbreaking PBS television series Lilias! Yoga and You, which began airing in the 1970s. At a time when yoga was still unfamiliar to much of the United States, Lilias welcomed viewers into the practice with warmth, humor, and an unmistakable sense of humanity.

Changing the World, One Meal at a Time - Sam Wieland & Suzy Weiner

As the world seems to change a little bit more every day, I think we can all take comfort in the ways we know it might stay the same. A restaurant that still exists in the neighborhood you grew up in. A recipe passed down from your great grandmother. The friends you share a meal with once every few years.

At the heart of it, we want to make a cookbook that reminds you of the importance of those things. A cookbook that reminds you of our duty to honor these flavors, these traditions, memories, people, and landscapes that serve as the soul of our planet.
