“Realize that both joy and sorrow are passing phases, like white or dark clouds across the blue sky, and learn to treat prosperity and adversity with equanimity.”
~ Sathya Sai Baba
Dear Friends,
Today is a special day—celebrated as All Saints’ Day and Día de Muertos, among others—of honoring and remembering our loved ones and ancestors who have passed on. A few days ago marked the 5-year anniversary of the death of my mom, India Supera. On occasions such as these, there is a time for reflection on life and death,
suffering and grief, and also on what it means to live and feel gratitude.
During the last 5 years, there have been ongoing wars, natural disasters, the COVID-19 pandemic, and massive amounts of trauma and loss. Reading the news doesn’t restore your faith in humanity. It’s easy to get caught in despair.
AND—it’s important to remember the “and”—there is always a spark of light. Going through these challenges has brought creativity, soul searching, finding meaning and purpose, consciousness, great love and care for our fellow human beings, and discovery about what’s really, really important. There is hope, faith, love, compassion, and gratitude all around us. When we remember we are in this big circle together, connected, we can really feel alive and see positive potential.
What will the next 5 years bring when we dare to dream big from the heart? What is the world and community like in which we want to live? Let’s manifest that each day. When we do that, we also honor the love and legacy of our ancestors who have lived before us.
Election Day 2024
"The vote is precious. It is almost sacred. It is the most powerful nonviolent tool we have in a democratic society, and we must use it."
~ John Lewis
To our U.S.-based readers, we’d like to offer an additional encouragement to take part in shaping your communities by voting in the upcoming election. Voting is an empowering practice that can reflect our values and hopes for the future. Let your voice contribute to the collective journey we’re all on together!
"Someone struggled for your right to vote. Use it."
~ Susan B. Anthony
On that note, please consider joining Dr. Jean Shinoda Bolen in the Virtual Women’s March on November 2, 2024.
With love and light,

Liminal Space and Time: Between “What Was” and “What Next” - Dr. Jean Shinoda Bolen
Between “What Was” and “What Next.” We are in a Liminal Time (Liminal comes from the Latin word for “Threshold”) and a Crisis (The Chinese pictograph for “crisis: is made up of two characters: “danger” and “opportunity.”). This is where we are as individuals and as humanity.
Calling upon imagination, creativity, trust, and action—might we take steps during this liminal time toward becoming who we were meant to be?
