A Place Between Awe and Ahhh

Dear Friends,

There is a certain feeling you get when arriving at Feathered Pipe Ranch, whether it’s your first or umpteenth time. It’s hard to describe, but it’s on the spectrum between awe (amazement and soul-filling appreciation of the setting) and ahhh (relief and exhale, while coming into a place of comfort or home). This combination allows for a kind of instant replenishment.

When I arrived there yesterday after having been away for a while, I felt the immediate comfort of home. Admittedly I’m a bit biased since I was born and raised there, but it still delights me and fills me with gratitude. I was greeted by several amazing human beings and the budding aspen trees. Fresh air filled my lungs with the smell of pines and grass. Ahhhh!

Meanwhile the mountains watch over the Ranch, a sweet oasis tucked away. Aside from the natural beauty, I could witness the love that so many people have poured into the grounds and buildings this spring in preparation for the season. Awe!

After an insanely cold winter (as in, 50 below zero temperatures!), not only have all the damages been repaired, but also so many improvements. The Ranch seems more beautiful than ever.

The Feathered Pipe Ranch—a place between awe and ahh—is ready to greet you. There are still at least a few spots open for most programs. Please check out our season’s line up if you’d like to join us.

Dandelion Effect

This week we are happy to welcome Effie Baldwin on the Dandelion Effect Podcast. Effie first came to Feathered Pipe Ranch with Veterans Yoga Project in 2021. She felt so at peace here and is planning to come back soon.

Effie is a U.S. Army veteran, Positive Discipline Educator, Associate Member of the U.S. Golf Teachers Federation and the founder of Believing in a Better World LLC. After earning her Kemetic Yoga Certification in Egypt, she became an instructor for Veterans Yoga Project then later a board member for the nonprofit.

She’s a self-proclaimed optimistic realist, a way of viewing the world through practicality and positivity, giving people and situations the benefit of the doubt. She also recalls questioning the “rules of engagement” very early and crafting a life of learning, growing and independently investigating the truth—as she calls it—to decide what made sense for her own happiness, not what was projected onto her from society. We invite you to listen to: Optimistic Realism with Effie Baldwin.

We look forward to seeing you soon at the Feathered Pipe Ranch.

With love and gratitude,

Fatigue Relief: An Iyengar Yoga Sequence For Relieving Fatigue – Marla Apt

Too tired. For many it’s the default response to every request—even the fun ones. Some of the walking weary are simply too overworked or overstressed to get adequate rest, while others may feel drained by a physical ailment, a psychological condition, or the side effects of medication. Whatever the cause, all can benefit from the respite that a restorative yoga practice provides.

Beans Bourguinon – Feathered Pipe Cookbook

Beans Bourguinon is a vegetarian update to the classic Boeuf Bourguignon, made famous in the states by Julia Child. This is a simple braised dish with complex flavors built on lots of red wine and a bouquet garni of thyme and rosemary.

This recipe can easily be made vegan and gluten free by substituting vegan butter and cornstarch for butter and flour.
